We could not let Haggard get away without setting in and playing or singing or whatever he wanted to do. He said he would set in and do a few songs if he could play his fiddle and of course, we all said yes, yes, yes. As we got back on stage to continue the show John introduced Haggard as a special guest and got on the drums (He was the drummer for Ray Price in the 60's). I asked Haggard what he wanted to do. He said, do you know my song the Farmers Daughter? to which I replied, what key do you sing it in? To which he replied what key do you sing it in? I said, I sing it in the same key that you do but I will not be singing it here tonight. He said he just wanted to play the fiddle and not sing. He wanted me to sing his songs and maybe some Bob Wills songs and since I did almost all of them and in the same key as he did them it was great for him. It was a little strange at first to be singing Merle Haggard songs on stage with Merle himself but I was already used to singing before Bush on his shows (although I wasn't singing Bush's songs, I was mostly singing Haggard songs) we all loosened up and had a good time. I sang while Merle played fiddle and some guitar, Bush played drums and the crowd loved it. Read on...
